Overview of role
We are looking for an Assistant Vice President (AVP), Investment Strategy & Research (IS&R) to join our Middle East & Africa (MEA) team, based in Dubai or Riyadh. This role sits within a multi-asset investment research and strategy function that supports client engagement, distribution, and solution development across the region.
The successful candidate will play a key role in generating and translating investment research into actionable insights, identifying market trends, supporting thought leadership, bespoke client solutions, and strategic conversations with institutional and intermediary clients. The role requires close collaboration with global and regional investment teams, portfolio managers, sales, and marketing partners.
This position is well-suited for a curious, analytically strong, and commercially aware investment professional who is comfortable operating in a global organization and engaging across cultures and functions.
What we will ask you to do:
Incubate and develop investment research ideas aligned with SSIM's global and regional priorities
Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis across asset classes, markets, and investment themes relevant to MEA clients
Apply sound investment concepts including portfolio construction, risk management, asset allocation, and market analysis
Leverage data analytics and modeling tools to support research outputs and investment insights
Translate complex investment analysis into clear, relevant, and actionable insights for internal and external audiences
Contribute to the development of high-quality written thought leadership, presentations, and client materials
Present research findings confidently to internal stakeholders, sales teams, and clients as required
Work closely with portfolio managers, portfolio strategists, and global research teams to validate and socialize research outputs
Partner with distribution and marketing teams to ensure consistent and effective amplification of key investment messages
Support client engagement efforts by contributing to meetings, events, and bespoke solution discussions where appropriate
Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders across investments, research, sales, and marketing
What we would love you to be:
Academic background in finance, economics, business or a related field
CFA/CAIA charter holder/ candidate or equivalent
At least 3-5 years of relevant industry experience
Strong working knowledge of financial markets, economics, investment analysis, portfolio theory, and related concepts
Technical proficiency with Bloomberg or FactSet as well as MS Excel; Programming skills in at least one supported statistical programming environment (Python, R, or MATLAB) is desirable but not required.
Regional experience or familiarity with MEA markets is favorable
Fluency in English is required; Arabic is a plus
Willingness to travel regionally on an occasional basis
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams in a global, matrixed organization
A good problem solver and trouble-shooter, with the ability to identify and analyze issues with the creativity and energy to solve them
