Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist – Acute Care

Ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration, and drug therapy monitoring services in the UVA Medical Center. Monitors inpatient and outpatient drug therapies when appropriate and works with related medical staff to find alternatives when needed to ensure the best care possible is being given.

What You’ll Do:
- Deliver expert pharmacy support across 126 pediatric beds, primarily on day shift.
- Train and rotate through:
– Inpatient hematology/oncology/GI
– General pediatrics (endocrine, renal, cardiac, solid organ transplants including livers, kidneys, and hearts)
– Ambulatory Infusion Center
– Optional: Ambulatory hematology/oncology and rheumatology
Staff every fourth weekend, providing dedicated pediatric clinical coverage rotating through day or evening shift.
Beyond the Bench:
- Participate in order optimization within the electronic medical record and patient safety initiatives
- Partner with medical staff to ensure seamless transitions of care

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s in pharmacy or PharmD degree required.
- Experience: PGY-1 residency required or equivalent hospital experience (three years). PGY-2 residency is preferred for specialty areas.
- Licensure/Certifications: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license required. American Heart Association (AHA) healthcare provider BLS certification required.

Physical Demands
Job requires standing and traveling for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull less than 20 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals
Onboarding Requirements
Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
The starting base rate for this role is $64.37 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
