- Assistant Vice President and Chief Research Informatics Officer
Description
We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Vice President and Chief Research Informatics Officer (CRIO). This role will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President and Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO).
The CRIO is a vital leadership role, responsible for collaborating with enterprise digital and technology leaders to create and implement a comprehensive Research Informatics strategy. This strategy will encompass technology, data science, artificial intelligence, and digital health applications — all designed to accelerate research breakthroughs and improve the health of children.
As a champion for integrating advanced data, technology, and computational biology into clinical and translational research, the CRIO will work closely with leaders across CHOP. This includes academic chairs, division chiefs, directors of Research Institute-supported centers and programs, members of the executive team, and external partners.
Key responsibilities include:
Set and articulate an institution-wide research informatics strategy aligned with CHOP’s mission.
Partner with the CDIO and the Digital & Technology Services team to develop and integrate enterprise-wide technology, analytics, and AI strategies that support research innovation, clinical care, and operational effectiveness.
Oversee development and maintenance of core informatics platforms — Arcus, research data environments, electronic health record-integrated pathways, translational and clinical data systems — leveraging research platforms, core service units, and Research Information Services.
Oversee multiple units including application services, digital and web services, business analytics, data analytics, software engineering, data science, cloud technology, bioinformatics, and clinical decision support, comprising a team of 40+ professionals.
Serve on and lead key governance and advisory committees, guiding strategic decision-making, evaluation of impact, and alignment of informatics programs with institutional goals.
Requirements
Education and Credentials:
Doctorate MD, DO, or PhD in biomedical informatics, data science, computational biology or related field required.
Experience:
At least 15 years of software engineering, data warehouse/systems development, data architecture, application development, and database administration experience, with at least 12 years of leadership, management, or supervisory experience required.
