Universal Cells , an affiliate of Astellas located in Seattle, WA, is focused on the development and commercialization of stem cell and regenerative medicine therapies. Universal Cells (UCI) is announcing a Scientist I, NK Cell Biology & Pharmacology opportunity at their facility in Seattle, WA .

Purpose:

This Scientist I position is a preclinical, laboratory focused role with the primary purpose of providing scientific expertise towards the development of novel stem cell derived NK cell therapies for oncology. This position will work with a Research team and will conduct experiments related to this critical project to ensure efficient operation and on-time delivery of PSC-derived NK Cell research toward development of an NK cell-based therapy for oncology.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements in vitro assays for functional and phenotypic characterization of PSC-derived NK cells and other immune cell types.

  • Maintains cutting-edge knowledge of scientific advances in NK biology and immune-oncology.

  • Identifies new research directions (including new models, methodologies, etc.)

  • Contributes to the scientific advances of the NK program.

  • Performs data collection, analysis and interpretation of experiments.

  • Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols, and presentations. Regularly presents findings at group meetings.

  • Applies a high degree of scientific rigor to all aspects of the job, including experimental design, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Collaborates with colleagues across Universal Cells and other Astellas sites.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or special projects as needed

Quantitative Dimensions:

  • The Scientist I is a key position overseeing the proper execution, documentation and presentation of PSC-derived NK cell activities to facilitate advancement of this critical project.

Organizational Context:

  • Reports to Research Team Leader.

  • Collaborates regularly with the Scientists and other R&D teams

  • Closely collaborates with colleagues within R&D at Universal Cells and other Astellas sites.



Requirements

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Stem Cell Biology, Immunology, or a related field, with 0-3 years of relevant post-graduate experience, or MS with 6+ years, or BS with 8+ years of highly relevant experience

  • Knowledge of or familiary in NK cell differentiation, expansion, and characterization.

  • Broad experience with in vitro cell biology, immunology and molecular assays (e.g. flow cytometry, ELISA, imaging, gene expression, and cytotoxicity analyses)

  • Experience isolating, culturing, and phenotyping different immune cell types.

  • Demonstrated ability to move a project forward and work in team settings.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills with scientific attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and ability to effectively collaborate with other teams.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong work ethic with a passion for working in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse work environment.

Preferred:

  • Prior industry experience

  • Strong scientific training and laboratory skills in immunology, immuno-oncology, and oncology.

  • Experience with human pluripotent stem cells.

  • Experience with relevant animal models.

  • Adept at managing and executing multiple projects
